Food and Class

Accidental Hedonist (what a fantastic site!), turned me on to an excellent article about food and class. The Slow/Organic/Good food movement does have a class problem. The article ponders the problem and possible solutions. Also, buried within the comments to the article, I found a link to Growing Power which looks like a fantastic org.

Re: How to Cut...

Via The Accidental Hedonist, I found this link to a sweet page detailing how to cut veggies. Really nice illustrated instructions are included - for right and left handed people (if you consider left handers people).

I've got veggies on my mind as I've joined a CSA. Can't wait for my first share of the crop!

A Chowhound is Born

I'm making just a single New Year's resolution: I will be eating more; cooking more; enjoying good food more.

Possibly this will benefit my health; my mental health at the very least. On that theme, I've just read It Must've Been Something I Ate by food critic and writer Jeffrey Steingarten. The book is a collection of his Vogue Magazine food columns. Many of them are hilarious. All of them made me salivate. I now understand (well, better understand), how some people can read a cookbook cover to cover, just for fun.

I've also ordered The Professional Chef by the CIA (Culinary Institute of America). Its reputed to be the best cooking textbook available. I'm sure I'll have more to say on that later.
